| Flowers, in bed near fence (July 2014) |
I assume that there are different philosophies about flowers in gardens, and how to place them; let them grow; and give them space. Some people prefer for the beds of the flowers to be clearly visible - as if the demarkations of the bed is as important as what grows in the bed. Other people (and I think the Head Gardener is one of them), believe that flowers should be like a jungle, they should take over their spaces, look as if nature was just taking its course, and then produce certain combinations of flowers, with some funky neighbour next to another 'wild' plant.

To me, our garden has a mixture of these two approaches: the more established flower beds are heaving with plants; competing for the space, and some times one flower blocking out another one. We also have, however, beds where one can even see the spaces in between differet flowers (i.e. soil!). I like that there are these differences, and hope that our garden will always show both of these approaches.
