Being slated

Sometimes you just have to accept when you have been slated. The Head Gardener just started to use old slates which have been stored in our garage. I thought that we should maybe keep them to fix some of the roof, or something, but now they are being used to create borders for some of our newer vegetable beds:
Corn salad (Feldsalat)
I wonder whether the slates are harder to overcome by slugs... Probably not, but in the bed above (as shown in the photo) it will mean that the soil from the bed does not wash onto the path. In vegetable beds were there is lawn near the vegetable patch it might keep a bit of the grass out. We shall see.
