Berrying good news
Just whilst you are not noticing, I sneak in another post... using another photo which shows off our harvest of berries - there could have been many more... However, one thing should be clearer now: with all this harvesting, the process of documenting was really not so important to us. Sorry. We could have just tried to bury some bad news with a lovely blog post; covering up a failure of our gardening with berrying good news with such filled punnets. But I'm sure that you don't expect us to cover bad news, when we don't or didn't cover any news on here. The freezer is still full with many fruits, and I guess that we'll make some currant jams, in the coming autumnal and wintery evenings... However, you know that things don't stop with the harvesting, the processing and - in case of some of these berries - the jam making... One also needs to eat these things. The Head Gardener has just sold (at a local stall) some of the 2012 jerusalem artichoke chutney. So for some things we are already "self-sufficient", however in so many ways we are very reliant on extra supplies. Having written this: we have bought very few vegetables in the last couple of months and have mostly lived of our own garden's produce for cooking lovely vegetarian meals. Yum!
