Our wild life!

For once not a post about flowers and plants in our garden, but about wildlife - and I hope that those city dwellers of you out there will be green with envy for us having such a wild life.

Today, whilst mowing the top bit of our garden, or rather the lawn, I saw some movement further ahead of me when I was approaching one of these "flower islands" as I'd like to call them; first, I thought it was a small mouse, but then it stopped and froze in that position. Claire had time to get a camera. Here is the result. Now, where does this frog live, and where was it hoping to hop to? Our neighbours to one side, where the frog was heading for, have a small pond. We were still amazed to see it; even though, a couple of weeks ago I had discovered a pair of frogs under a pile of plastic boards which should be used for another raised bed, but which we have - so far? - not put into use.

Apart from that we have, of course, the Black Squirrels of Letchworth, which I really must photograph one day, but if you don't believe me, you might trust Wikipedia and its article on black squirrels, or you might trust the BBC 's News Online page more: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-11444893. Anyway, we see black squirrels almost daily, often one chasing another one. Also, us living so close to the Common means that we have had a number of different birds in our garden... Hopefully, we'll manage to add some photos of them soon.

Until then, enjoy the wildlife in your neighbourhood!

[Head Gardener edit: I was followed around by a little wren today too! :-)]
