Olympics – cover up story 1

Okay, this isn't quite right. This is not about the Olympics at all. It is just written now, whilst these Games are still happening, but the story relates to our garden and our massive compost area, inherited from the previous owners. Also, this has happened quite a few weeks ago, ah well... Never mind, this blog documents what we have done, not necessarily what we are in the process of doing.

Compost area May 2012, covered
Importantly, though, this compost area was full of all things; things we wouldn't put on a compost heap – like massive branches (thicker than an arm or a thigh!), and plastic plant pots (helpful). Also, the area has been full of weeds. After the Head Gardener had cleared the area, and we had topped up each of the three compartments, she decided that we should cover it up with a black plastic sheet – as weeds were still growing amongst the compost materials. We are now hoping that this method will mean that we will kill the weeds in there. Maybe we will remove all this area, as an open compost area has various disadvantages, mainly that birds can come and scatter things, but also that any kind of pollen can land there and make it a good fertilising ground for growing more weeds.

  1. You do know how to make people want really bad NOT to have a compost area. :)
