New house, new garden!

Well, gardening was basically put on hold for most of the last year thanks to the big house-move saga. But now we have a BIIIIIIG new garden, which will take up absolutely loads of our time and will provide much material for this blog. Claire has already planned everything we're going to do; now we just have to find the time to do it!

Here are some pictures of how it looks at the moment - we've done next to nothing yet apart from mowing the lawn (that took 2 hours, and we haven't finished yet...), weeding, and putting a couple of plants in (guess which ones are ours and which were here already).

This is the top bit of garden, from the house, at the side a bit. The plan is to get rid of most of the lawn over time and have some nice plants instead.

The same bit of garden from the opposite direction.

The 'middle' bit of garden. This will be the majority of the veg garden. Those blackberry brambles are giving us a huge amount of blackberries already! Jam making coming up....
The bottom bit of garden, aka the orchard. (You can see where I gave up on lawnmowing!) There are *four* massive apple trees here plus a plum tree - some / most / all of those are really going to have to go, what with only one person in the house eating apples anyway.... Plus they cast a huge amount of shade. This might be an extension of the veg garden, plus where I'm going to put the wildflower 'meadow', the comfrey, and the chickens / bees / goats.... :-)

  1. Man, it's a really beautiful place you got yourselves there. Bravo!

Can't say I approve cutting all trees but hey, they're yours. :)

  2. You'll have to come and visit! I don't really like cutting down trees either, but that much fruit that we can't eat is insane. I'd rather use the space for something we will eat.
