sweetcorn is us

Our first sweetcorn of the year. Yum! There are a few more cobs on the plants so hopefully they will ripen up soon. But a lot of the plants are still too small and haven't grown enough this year :-(
The cucumbers of the previous post were also short-lived; we only got three before the plant keeled over. Gah!
In other news: the squash plants have been growing like crazy, but have only just started to flower in the past couple of days. There are some fruits developing now, so fingers crossed they ripen before the weather turns cold. I am really learning some lessons this year about the importance of starting plants early and not letting them sit around doing nothing!
The tomatoes have been okay, but are nearly over. The aubergines and peppers have been fairly rubbish, only one fruit which, again, is still pretty small given that it's late August. Everything else seems to be doing okay though. Apart from the apples, which have almost all been attacked by birds, wasps or brown rot, and we didn't have many to start with. Hey ho.

What's "hey ho" ? Don't tell me you have resumed your dwarfish singing lessons. We've talked about that.
