new patio!

After four weeks of work (on and off), which seemed to take for ever, Andrew from Yewtopia finally finished our new patio and path last week. We forgot to take a 'before' picture but you've probably seen the real thing at some stage anyway. Here's the 'during' pictures:

And here are the 'after' pictures:

We like.

In other news (bad): the *horrible* cold weather this week has done its best to kill off my courgettes, squashes and beans, which I stupidly had planted out already. ('Ah, it's May, it'll be fine...') I have now learnt my lesson! I am crossing my fingers that they will perk up again soon, otherwise I will be planting some more seeds tomorrow and hoping that the summer is hot enough for them to actually do something. I also managed to kill the cucumber AGAIN. This has to be the hardest vegetable I have tried. I have two seeds left in the packet so there might be one more go next year, but if it still doesn't work then that will be it!!!
In other news (good): last year's chard has somehow survived the winter and is now doing quite well. I was bought a lovely jasmine at Wisley last weekend (thanks mum!) - now we just need to get the wall finished off next to the patio (where the old barbecue used to be), so I can actually plant it. We're having trouble finding a builder to do it - anyone know any helpful builders?
