give peas a chance

Here's our first pea harvest of this year. You may wonder why they have little labels on; well, it's because we're taking part in a trial for Garden Organic (details here) - it's comparing four  different kinds of peas, three of which are no longer commerically available, to see how well they grow, what they taste like, etc etc. It's been slightly annoying growing them because we don't really have the space to separate out the four kinds properly, so it's been hard work untangling them, and also my nice bamboo cane support thingy has decided to tilt dramatically in the past few weeks. (But hasn't fallen over - yet.) But we did our first harvest yesterday, then had to weigh them, count them, cook them, etc etc for the experiment, and fill in a big questionnaire. It was actually quite fun! And the peas are yummy :-)  From now on we can just eat them and don't have to faff around any more.

In other garden news: everything survived okay during the (hot) week we were in France. (Thank you, Patrick and Sylvia). The Cosmos we bought at Wisley a couple of weeks ago are now flowering nicely (no pics yet), and everything else seems to be coming along fine too. We still have hundreds of strawberries - but at least the birds have stopped eating them. Only a few snails to contend with now.
